Please join us in welcoming the next speaker in our Around the Bureau series, Allan Friedman, PhD,  Director of Cybersecurity at NTIA. In this session, Allan will cover the following:

  • What do we mean by ‘cybersecurity’?
  • How does cybersecurity affect your field, and how can you engage?
  • What is NTIA doing on cybersecurity policy?

Allan Friedman is Director of Cybersecurity at National Telecommunications and Information Administration in the US Department of Commerce. He coordinates NTIA’s multistakeholder processes on cybersecurity, focusing on addressing vulnerabilities in IoT and across the software world. Prior to joining the Federal Government, Friedman spent over a 15 years as a noted cybersecurity and technology policy researcher at Harvard’s Computer Science Department, the Brookings Institution, and George Washington University’s Engineering School. He is the coauthor of the popular text “Cybersecurity and Cyberwar: What Everyone Needs to Know” and has a degree in computer science from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. in public policy from Harvard University. ­­To read more about Allan, please visit his website.
